Final Round AI Alternative (2026): Why Teams Switch to Kalfi

Final Round AI built the category playbook for live interview coaching. It also lists at roughly $150 per month. If you want the same in-call answers without the enterprise-sized invoice, here is how Kalfi compares on price, stealth and what happens after the interview loop ends.

The short version

  • Final Round AI list price runs around $150/month; Kalfi is $14/month BYOK or $19/month hosted.
  • Kalfi lets you rename the app and swap its logo, so the process and overlay do not announce themselves.
  • Kalfi is built for client and sales calls as well as interviews, with session threads that carry context between meetings.
  • Final Round AI still wins if you want a full job-search suite: resume tooling, mock interview libraries, coaching content.

What Final Round AI actually does well

Credit where it is due. Final Round AI is a complete job-hunting product, not just a live overlay. It bundles resume review, mock interviews, question banks and an in-call copilot into one subscription, and it markets hard to candidates in structured hiring pipelines. If you are three weeks from a final round at a large company and you want a single tool to run your whole preparation, that bundle has real value.

The trade is that you buy the whole bundle whether or not you use it. Most people who reach for a live copilot want one thing: a readable line on screen while someone is waiting for them to answer. Everything else is shelfware they pay for monthly.

Where it stops fitting

The price does not scale down

At about $150 a month, a three-month job search costs roughly $450. For a freelancer using a copilot on client calls all year, the same plan is $1,800. That is priced like a hiring-team tool, not like a utility you keep installed.

It is interview-first by design

The product model assumes a candidate in a hiring funnel. When the offer is signed, the use case evaporates. Kalfi treats the interview as one of three modes, alongside client meetings and general calls, so the app stays useful after you get the job.

The name is still the name

Hiding a Dock icon is not the same as being unremarkable. On macOS, a process list still shows whatever the app calls itself, and a recognizable vendor name in Activity Monitor is the detail that actually gets noticed if someone glances at a shared screen or asks you to open it. This is the gap Kalfi's custom display name and logo feature was built to close.

What Kalfi does differently

An honest boundary. Kalfi is not a rootkit and does not claim to be undetectable. Screen-capture protection depends on your macOS version and the conferencing app, so test your exact setup before you rely on it. If a room says no assistance, respect that.

The money, plainly

Twelve months of each, assuming you keep the tool installed all year rather than cancelling after a job search.

On BYOK, the provider bill is the variable. A typical month of twelve 40-minute calls on a small model lands in single-digit dollars, and you can watch it in your own OpenAI or OpenRouter dashboard rather than trusting a marketing page. If you would rather not manage a key at all, the hosted plan is $19/month and we carry the model cost. Either way the gap against $150 a month is not close. Run your own numbers in the cost calculator on the landing page.

Who should stay on Final Round AI

Switching is not automatically the right call. Stay where you are if:

Switch to Kalfi if your actual need is a quiet overlay that produces one speakable line, you care about what the process is called, and you want the tool to keep earning its place after the hiring process ends.

Switching takes about ten minutes

  1. Download the Apple Silicon DMG from GitHub Releases. The build is unsigned today, so open it from the right-click menu the first time.
  2. Pick a plan: paste your own OpenAI or OpenRouter key on BYOK, or sign in on the hosted plan.
  3. Open Settings and set your display name and logo before your first real call.
  4. Grant microphone and system-audio permission, then run a test call with a friend and confirm the overlay stays off the shared screen.
  5. Create a thread for the role or the client so follow-up meetings inherit the context.

Questions people ask before switching

Is Kalfi actually cheaper than Final Round AI?

Yes, by a wide margin on list prices. Kalfi is $14/month on your own key or $19/month hosted, against roughly $150/month for Final Round AI. On BYOK you also pay your provider directly for tokens and transcription, which for normal meeting volume is typically a few dollars a month.

Does Kalfi work for client meetings, not just interviews?

That is a core part of the design. Client mode asks for project scope and open decisions instead of a job description, and sessions live in threads so the follow-up call remembers what was agreed. See the LazyJobSeeker comparison for more on the dual-use case.

Does a bot join my meeting?

No. Kalfi is a local macOS app that captures audio on your machine and draws an overlay on your own display. No additional participant appears in the Meet or Zoom roster.

What happens to my API key?

On BYOK it is stored in macOS encrypted storage and calls your provider directly from your machine. It never reaches our servers. On the hosted plan there is no key to manage, because requests run through ours.

Is there a team plan?

A Team pack is in progress. Until it ships, email hello@chatlm.tech and we will sort out seats manually.
