ParakeetAI is a capable live-answer tool with model selection and a credit-based path for lighter users. The subscription price reflects a hosted product: they run the transcription, they run the model calls, and they absorb the variability of heavy users. That is a legitimate business model. It is also why the number is large, because the plan has to cover the worst-case customer, not the average one.
The uncomfortable part is that for a typical user the gap between what the model actually costs and what the subscription charges is enormous. That gap is the entire argument for bringing your own key.
